Decyl Glucoside

INCI · Decyl Glucoside

Revelika safety grade

Overview

A non-ionic surfactant made by joining a plant-derived fatty alcohol to glucose. It foams modestly, tolerates a wide pH range and is often chosen for cleansers positioned at sensitive or infant skin.

Who it's for

Formulas built around a gentle feel — micellar waters, low-foam gel cleansers, baby washes — and mineral sunscreens, where it also helps disperse the powder.

Cautions

Alkyl polyglucosides are naturally alkaline as supplied, so a cleanser built on them has to be pH-adjusted deliberately; the ingredient's reputation for gentleness does not survive a formula that skips that step. Rare allergic contact reactions have been reported.
