Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate
INCI · Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate
Overview
An amino-acid surfactant built from coconut fatty acids and glutamic acid. It is mildly acidic in use, which lets a cleanser be formulated close to skin's own pH without a large correction, and it gives a soft, low-squeak rinse.
Who it's for
Cleansers marketed as low-pH or amino-acid based, and second-cleanse steps in routines that start with an oil or balm.
Cautions
Amino-acid surfactants foam less than sulphates, and a formula compensating for that with a higher total surfactant load is not automatically milder than what it replaced. Nothing about the class removes the need to judge how your own skin feels afterwards.
