Avène

Avène is a French dermo-cosmetic brand owned by the Pierre Fabre group and built around the thermal spring water of Avène-les-Bains in southern France. It is sold mainly through pharmacies and positions almost its entire catalogue around sensitive and reactive skin.

The range spans gentle cleansers, thermal water sprays, moisturisers, soothing creams and a broad sunscreen line. Formulas tend to lean minimalist: short ingredient lists, fragrance-free or low-fragrance options, and packaging designed to limit contamination, such as sterile pumps and single-dose formats. Several products are aimed at skin recovering from in-clinic procedures or reacting to strong actives.

Brand positioning is not a substitute for reading a label. Sensitivity is individual, and even a product marketed for reactive skin can irritate. Patch test anything new, introduce one product at a time so you can tell what caused a reaction, and take persistent redness, itching or burning to a dermatologist rather than trying to work through it with cosmetics alone.
