Routine

7-skin method

"Skin" here is the Korean word for toner, so the name simply means seven toner layers. Each layer is a small amount pressed in with the palms and allowed to absorb before the next, which builds hydration gradually without the heaviness of a thick cream.

It suits simple, humectant-rich, low-alcohol hydrating toners and essences — formulas built around glycerin, hyaluronic acid or similar ingredients. Products with exfoliating acids, high fragrance levels or strong actives are not appropriate for repeated layering, since repeated exposure increases irritation risk.

Seven is a guideline, not a rule; three or four layers are enough for many people, and oily or acne-prone skin may find heavy layering uncomfortable. Humectant layers still need something to hold water in, so most routines finish with a moisturiser, and with sunscreen in the morning. Stop if skin feels tight, stings or looks congested.
