Sheet Mask
A sheet mask is a single-use facial mask made from a thin fabric, hydrogel or cellulose sheet, cut to fit the face and soaked in a serum-like essence. It is used as an occasional, concentrated hydration or comfort step rather than a daily part of a routine.
The sheet acts as a temporary barrier that holds the essence against the skin and slows evaporation, allowing hydrating and soothing ingredients to sit on the surface for the wear time. Typical formulas are rich in humectants such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid, along with skin-conditioning extracts. Most masks are worn for around ten to twenty minutes; leaving them on until they dry out is generally counterproductive, because a drying sheet can start to draw moisture back from the skin.
Sheet masks suit most skin types and are popular for a quick hydration boost, for dehydrated or tired-looking skin, or before an event. After removing the mask, any remaining essence can be patted in, and applying a moisturiser afterwards helps seal in the hydration. They are a supportive comfort step rather than a treatment, and results are typically short-lived rather than long-term.
