Body Lotion
A body lotion is a pourable, water-rich moisturizer formulated for the skin below the neck, used to soften and hydrate large areas like arms, legs, and torso. It is typically applied after showering or bathing, once or twice a day.
Like facial moisturizers, lotions combine humectants that attract water, emollients that smooth the surface, and a lighter share of occlusives to slow moisture loss. Their higher water content makes them fluid, fast-absorbing, and easy to spread over the body, though this also makes them lighter than a thick body butter or cream. Some include exfoliating or barrier-supporting ingredients such as urea, lactic acid, glycerin, or ceramides.
- Fluid texture that spreads easily over large areas.
- Humectant and emollient blend for everyday softness.
- Best absorbed on slightly damp skin after washing.
Body lotions suit most skin types for routine daily hydration. Very dry, rough, or tight skin, or bumpy textures such as keratosis pilaris, may need a richer cream or a lotion with added urea or gentle acids. Applying to damp skin helps lock in water. Fragrance is common in body products and can irritate sensitive skin, so fragrance-free formulas are preferable for reactive or eczema-prone skin.
